HLL Lifecare Limited, under India's Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is ramping up its production of menstrual cups to meet sustainable hygiene needs. The increase aligns with the company's commitment to environmentally-friendly products, focusing on young women and areas lacking access to affordable menstrual options.

The company has escalated its annual production capacity to five million units at its Akkulam facility in Thiruvananthapuram. This expansion will allow HLL to distribute more freely to underprivileged women across India as part of its Thinkal project, with a target to distribute three lakh cups specifically in Kerala.

The Thinkal project, managed by the HLL Management Academy, promotes the use of safe, reusable menstrual cups to reduce sanitary waste. Initiated during the 2018 Alappuzha floods, the initiative has reached multiple states and Union Territories. Krishna S H from HMA highlights that awareness sessions accompany distribution to aid proper usage and dispel menstrual myths.

Alongside Thinkal Cups, HLL markets other menstrual brands like Velvet and Cool Cup, all ensuring safety through medical-grade silicone. Krishna S H emphasizes that menstrual cups, offering long-term use and comfort, are both cost-effective and environmentally considerate alternatives to disposable products.
