Extended Quarantine for Cruise Ship Passengers amid Hantavirus Alert

Australia extends the quarantine of passengers from a Dutch-flagged cruise ship, affected by a hantavirus outbreak, to 42 days. Initially set to end on June 5, the quarantine will now continue until June 23, affecting six individuals at a facility near Perth.

In a move aimed at preventing wider public health risks, Australia's Health Minister announced an extension of quarantine for passengers on a Dutch-flagged luxury cruise ship. The decision comes after a hantavirus outbreak onboard prompted authorities to take stringent preventive measures.

Initially quarantined until June 5, the repatriated passengers, which include four Australian citizens, a permanent resident, and one New Zealand resident, will now stay at the facility near Perth until June 23. This decision follows a reassessment by health authorities.

Health Minister Mark Butler emphasized that the passengers have been updated about the government's decision and are reported to be in good health. The extension is a precaution to help ensure the outbreak is contained and does not pose further risks to either the passengers or the general public.
