The Portland Trail Blazers confirmed Wednesday that power forward Zach Collins is recovering from a serious ankle injury, although he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. Collins, 21, sustained a grade 2 sprain and a torn ligament in his right ankle in a workout in mid-July. He did not require surgery but is using crutches and a walking boot.
The 7-footer averaged 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 17.6 minutes in 77 games off the Portland bench in his second NBA season in 2018-19. Collins is scheduled to return to Portland for an evaluation next week.
