Amid the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan and repeated calls for re-elections by the opposition, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly asserted the need to expose elements destabilizing the country. According to ARY News, Sharif's latest remarks seemed a thinly veiled attack on the opposition, delivered during a meeting with key party figures.
Sharif emphasized that both the government and his party, the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), must formulate an effective strategy to counter the organized campaign against the administration, state, and national security institutions. He lauded the constructive contributions of his party in the Senate, urging the Upper House to lead other chambers in promoting democratic norms and fostering a civilised environment.
The Prime Minister also congratulated Senator Irfan Siddiqui on his election as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, internal criticism has surfaced within PML-N, with senior leader Javed Latif questioning the administration's legitimacy, suggesting it was the outcome of an 'arrangement' rather than a democratic process.
In an interview on ARY News' 'Off the Record,' Latif stressed the need to prioritize state interests over party interests, noting that the fate of PML-N is inherently linked to the state's stability. He called for a comparative evaluation of the achievements of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and PTI founder Imran Khan, underscoring the importance of genuine electoral processes.
Latif warned of further damage from ongoing political meddling, asserting that while elections reflect the people's will, claims of systemic rigging must be thoroughly scrutinized. He pointed out that Nawaz Sharif remains silent as political activities pivot around Imran Khan, identified as prisoner number 804.
