Ameer Sultan, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of the National Assembly (MNA), was reportedly abducted by unidentified individuals in Lahore, according to a statement from a senior party leader on Sunday, cited by Geo News. Sultan, elected from NA-110 in Jhang, was taken from his residence on Sarwar Road, as per PTI Lahore Secretary General Hafiz Zeeshan.
'Unknown men arrived in two vehicles and abducted him last night,' said Zeeshan, suggesting that PTI members feel 'unsafe' following a Supreme Court order on reserved seats. The court's ruling allows PTI to gain reserved seats, potentially making it the largest party in the National Assembly.
In response, SSP Cantt Awais Shafiq informed Geo News that local police had not detained Sultan and had not received any kidnapping complaints. Zeeshan indicated that a formal complaint would be filed on July 15.
PTI's senior leader Asad Qaiser condemned the abduction, questioning the country's governance amid shifting political loyalties. 'This is lawlessness; there's no respect for judiciary rulings,' stated the former NA speaker. Qaiser asserted that party members would continue their lawful struggle, emphasizing that 'The time for condemnations is over; it's time to resist.'
