The senior leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) vehemently opposes the federal government’s decision to ban Imran Khan-founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported on Monday. PPP leader Raza Rabbani asserted that banning a political party contradicts democratic ideals and urged the government to reconsider.

Rabbani highlighted the existing political and economic uncertainty, warning that outlawing PTI would worsen the turmoil. He encouraged the government to focus on combatting terrorism instead.

Senior PPP leader Farhatullah Babar agreed, stating that crises instigated by self-interest cannot sustain in Pakistan’s democracy.

PPP's Nasir Shah also voiced his disapproval, noting the party chairman's opposition to the ban. ARY News conveyed that the government, as announced by Federal Minister Ata Tarar, plans to outlaw PTI citing constitutional grounds.

During a heated press conference, Ata Tarar declared the government’s constitutional right to ban PTI under Article 17. He listed PTI’s foreign funding, involvement in the May 9 riots, links with terrorist resettlement, cypher controversy, and a US resolution as justifications for the ban.
