The Indian Embassy, working with Cambodian authorities, has successfully rescued 14 Indian citizens ensnared in a cybercrime scam, the Embassy confirmed in a statement. A coordinated effort is now in progress to expedite their return, emphasizing their commitment to these individuals' welfare.
In a proactive move, the Embassy, in tandem with Cambodian officials, has already facilitated the rescue and repatriation of over 650 Indians previously caught in similar scams. Recently, they provided crucial information to the Cambodian Police, leading to the liberation of these 14 additional victims, who are currently under the care of an NGO partnering with Cambodia's Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation.
The Embassy is in constant dialogue with Cambodian authorities to hasten the required procedures, aiming for the swift and safe repatriation of the rescued nationals. They urge Indian nationals to be highly cautious about job offers in the region and to report any suspicious activities immediately. An advisory reminds job seekers to go through authorized MEA-approved agents and cautions against fraudulent employment schemes prevalent in Southeast Asia.
