Michael Kugelman, Director of the South Asia Institute at The Wilson Center, has raised concerns about the violence against minorities in Bangladesh, particularly Hindus. He stated that meaningful progress for the country is contingent on ending these attacks and addressing the law and order situation. Kugelman also dismissed allegations of foreign interference behind the recent mass uprising, noting a lack of plausible evidence to support these claims.

In an interview with ANI, Kugelman emphasized the need for more scrutiny and investigation into the violence against Hindu communities in Bangladesh. He stressed the importance of the media in addressing misinformation, which can obscure the reality of the situation. 'There has been a lot of misinformation as well. Many of these reports are actually not true. The problem with misinformation is it can distract from the fact that bad things are happening,' he said, urging both local and foreign media to continue their investigations.

Kugelman also addressed the political upheaval in Bangladesh, attributing it to internal factors and criticizing the harsh crackdown on protesters by Sheikh Hasina's government. He highlighted the urgency of restoring law and order to facilitate a peaceful political transition. Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has called on US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to assist the new interim government in ending the violence against Hindus and bringing perpetrators to justice.
