Nari Shakti Forum has penned a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, calling attention to escalating violence against minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh. The forum implored the Indian government to leverage its influence to support minority communities under attack.
The letter highlighted systematic attacks on worship places, homes, and businesses owned by Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and other minority groups. Religious sites have been desecrated, idols destroyed, and properties set on fire. The forum also underscored incidents of sexual violence targeting women from minority communities, aimed at terrorizing and displacing them.
Nari Shakti Forum further detailed instances of physical assaults, fatalities, and forced displacement. They urged President Murmu to diplomatically engage with the Bangladeshi government to ensure minority protection. Additionally, they called for India to spearhead efforts at international platforms, including the United Nations, to galvanize global support for Bangladesh's minority communities.
The forum requested India to publicly condemn the violence and take decisive measures, emphasizing that the Hindu and other minority communities in Bangladesh are facing an existential crisis. The forum emphasized India's moral obligation, given its historic and cultural ties with Bangladesh, to act promptly to mitigate the crisis.
Earlier, Nari Shakti Forum organized a protest march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar. Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma spotlighted the urgency of stopping what she termed as the 'genocide of Hindus' in Bangladesh. She stressed, 'Hindu lives matter and we have to stop the genocide.' Nari Shakti Forum urged for decisive measures.
Prime Minister Modi has communicated India's concerns to Mohammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, and reiterated India's commitment to a peaceful, stable, and democratic Bangladesh. Modi emphasized ensuring the safety of Hindus and other minorities. The Indian government has pledged continuing support through various initiatives.
