Following a deadly Russian attack on the Ukrainian city of Poltava, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed ongoing defense cooperation between the two nations. Trudeau expressed condolences for the victims' families and reiterated support for Ukraine.
The Russian strike targeted an educational institution and a hospital, claiming 41 lives and injuring over 180 people. Zelenskyy informed Trudeau about the extent of the damage and the rescue operations underway.
The Ukrainian President emphasized the need for additional air defense systems and armored vehicles. He also urged Trudeau to advocate for military grants to Ukraine among international partners and highlighted joint efforts on the drone coalition and the Bilateral Security Agreement.
Both leaders discussed organizing a conference in Canada focused on the release of prisoners and deportees, a critical point in the Peace Formula. The Poltava strike, one of the deadliest in over 900 days of conflict, illustrates the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
