In a significant move toward renewed diplomacy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in a bilateral meeting during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. Former Indian Ambassador to China, Gautam Bambawale, highlighted the importance of this interaction between the world's two most populous countries amidst recent agreements on Eastern Ladakh.
Speaking to ANI, Bambawale stressed that establishing peace between India and China is crucial not just for their bilateral relationship but also for global stability. He noted the meeting marked the first formal interaction between the two leaders in five years, following border tensions that began in 2020.
Bambawale urged that the focus must remain on actions rather than promises, emphasizing that renewed trust between the two nations' governments and militaries would pave the way for rebuilding a stable, peaceful relationship. Prime Minister Modi echoed these sentiments, advocating for mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity in guiding bilateral relations.
