Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anticipated visit to Mauritius this March rekindles long-standing ties with the island nation, stretching back to his initial trip in 1998. At that time, Modi represented the BJP as National General Secretary and discussed the universal values of the Ramayana at the International Ramayana Conference in Moka.
Mauritius and India share profound historical, cultural, and ancestral bonds, likened by many to a 'Mini India.' During Modi's prior visit, he engaged with Mauritius' key political figures and immersed himself in the nation's rich cultural heritage. Highlights included visiting the revered Ganga Talao and the Seven Coloured Earths in Chamarel.
Current plans for Modi's visit include participation in Mauritius' National Day celebrations on March 12 as the chief guest. The agenda also encompasses paying tribute to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, before meeting President Dharambeer Gokhool and holding bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam.
