PM Modi Receives Mauritius' Top Honour, Strengthening Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian to receive Mauritius' highest award—The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. The ceremony highlighted deep diplomatic relations, marking his visit as Chief Guest at Mauritius National Day celebrations.

In a remarkable diplomatic gesture, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam awarded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the nation's highest honour, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, making Modi the first Indian recipient of this prestigious award.

The accolade, which marks the 21st international award PM Modi has received, was presented at an event attended by both countries' leaders, accompanied by the anthems of India and Mauritius. Ramgoolam highlighted that only five foreign dignitaries have received this title since Mauritius became a Republic, with Nelson Mandela among them in 1998.

PM Modi, during his visit as Chief Guest at Mauritius National Day, showcased the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between the nations. He presented the President and First Lady of Mauritius with OCI Cards, artifacts symbolizing Indian heritage, and participated in fostering the bilateral bond at the Ayurveda garden and during a special luncheon hosted by President Dharambeer Gokhool.
