In a catastrophic event, at least 100 residents have lost their lives due to severe floods that swept through the Fizi territory in South Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, official sources confirmed on Sunday. The devastating floods struck overnight from Friday to Saturday.
The torrential rains responsible for the disaster have caused flash floods in the Kasaba locality, obliterating around 150 homes. This provisional toll paints a grim picture of the destruction left in the floods' wake.
The provincial government has raised alarms about the looming threat of waterborne diseases, respiratory infections, and malnutrition among the displaced population as relentless rains continue to barrage the region.
