Cavs' Thompson out at least 2 more weeks

Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson will miss approximately two more weeks due to his sprained left foot, the team announced on Friday. Thompson missed his fifth game because of the injury when the Cavaliers hosted the Miami Heat on Friday.

Thompson also sat out 10 games in December because of an injury to his left foot. He returned to play in eight games before suffering another injury to the foot against the Portland Trail Blazers on Jan. 16. Thompson is averaging 11.5 points and a career-best 11.1 rebounds in 35 games this season.

The Cavaliers are also getting closer to seeing five-time All-Star forward Kevin Love back following foot surgery on Nov. 2. Love participated in Friday's shootaround and interim coach Larry Drew liked what he witnessed.

"What I saw of Kevin this morning, I was almost in awe -- how well he moved, how well he passed," Drew told reporters. "I've been watching in workouts and he's been shooting the ball extremely well." Drew reiterated that there isn't an official timetable for Love's return. He said the medical staff will decide when Love will play.

"When they feel that he's completely ready, when he feels like he's completely ready and when he can step out on the floor, we're going to embrace him," Drew said. Love, 30, played in only four games before being injured. He averaged 19 points and 13.5 rebounds.
