Seeking Refuge: Afghan Migrants Face Challenges Post-Deportation

Thousands of Afghan migrants expelled from Iran and Pakistan struggle amid limited job opportunities and harsh living conditions. The Ministry of Labor is registering deportees' skills to connect them with employment prospects.

In recent months, thousands of Afghan migrants expelled from Iran and Pakistan are facing a challenging reintegration process back in Afghanistan. According to a UNHCR report, since April, over 1.4 million have returned from Iran and 303,000 from Pakistan, marking a significant increase in deportations.

Many of these returnees, like Abdul Rahim, who spent four years working in Iran's agriculture sector, are eager to utilize their skills within Afghanistan. Rahim, speaking to Tolo News, expressed hope that with job opportunities, he could support his family of six and help rebuild the local economy.

To address this, Afghanistan's Ministry of Labor has launched a system to record the skills of deported migrants, connecting over 110,000 individuals with potential employers. However, challenges remain, as deportees struggle with unemployment, lack of basic services, and poor living conditions in Afghanistan.
