In a bid to address escalating trade tensions, India's Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, engaged with key US lawmakers on Tuesday. The meetings centered around India's response to the recent imposition of hefty tariffs by the US, which has affected bilateral trade dynamics.

Ambassador Kwatra met with Rep. Pete Sessions, Chairman of the Congressional Sub-Committee on Governmental Operations. Their discussions focused on energy security and the burgeoning hydrocarbon partnership between India and the US. Kwatra emphasized the productive nature of their exchange on X, noting the importance of these dialogues for mutual energy cooperation.

Furthering diplomatic efforts, Ambassador Kwatra also met US Congressman Marc Veasey, Vice Co-Chair of the India Caucus. The talks underscored the necessity of fair and balanced trade. These discussions coincided with the White House's defense of President Trump's decision to double tariffs on Indian goods, a move explained as secondary pressure on Russia amid the Ukraine conflict.
