Hurricanes sign Martinook to two-year extension

The Carolina Hurricanes re-signed forward Jordan Martinook to a two-year, $4 million extension, the team announced Tuesday. The extension begins next season. Martinook is making $1.85 million this season and was slated to become a free agent on July 1.

Martinook, 26, has 13 points (10 goals, three assists) in 50 games this season, his first with the Hurricanes. He is a key member of Carolina's penalty-kill unit. "Jordan has really fit in well with our group and provides veteran leadership both on and off the ice," general manager Don Waddell said in a statement. "He skates with a relentless energy that epitomizes the way coach (Rod) Brind'Amour wants the Hurricanes to play."

Martinook, who spent his first four seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, has 36 goals and 42 assists (78 points) in 297 career games. --Field Level Media
