In a significant diplomatic gesture, India has extended its cooperation to Iran by providing docking facilities for the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Lavan at Kochi port. This follows the tragic sinking of another Iranian vessel, IRIS Dena, after it was torpedoed by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean.
In an exclusive conversation with ANI, Iran's Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, conveyed Iran's appreciation towards the Indian government for the hospitality extended to the IRIS Lavan crew. He underlined the critical situation arising from escalating tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran, highlighting the humanitarian aid provided by India.
Amid intensifying geopolitical tensions, India balances its historic relationship with Iran while maintaining its evolving defense partnership with the US. During these trying times, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar described the decision as purely humanitarian, emphasizing India's longstanding friendly relations with Iran.
