Escalating Tensions: Iran-Backed Militia's Surge in Attacks on US Bases in Iraq

Iran-backed militias have intensified their assault on US bases in Iraq, launching 19 attacks amid escalating regional tensions. The Islamic Resistance, an alliance of militias backed by Iran, launched a series of 19 drone and missile strikes targeting US bases in Iraq on Friday, as reported by Al Jazeera. This barrage is a continuation of attacks amidst the longstanding conflict between Iran and the United States in the region.

Simultaneously, an Iraqi police source revealed attacks on the Iran-backed Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) headquarters in al-Qaim and an airstrike on the PMF's 34th Brigade base in Mosul. Both the Islamic Resistance and the PMF have engaged in numerous proxy confrontations in the area.

Ahead of this, on Thursday, the US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert, cautioning of possible plans by Iran-linked militias for attacks in central Baghdad. Their advisory raised alarms about the potential targeting of US citizens and facilities in various locations across Iraq, emphasizing an elevated risk of kidnappings of Americans.
