Flourish Stay Inferno: Blaze Claims 21 Lives, Sparks Safety Concerns
A tragic fire at a Delhi hotel resulted in 21 fatalities, including 17 foreign nationals, highlighting major fire safety violations. The authorities have extended assistance to the embassies, while calls for stricter safety measures continue as investigations proceed. The hotel was operating beyond its approved capacity.
A devastating fire erupted at the Flourish Stay B&B in Delhi's Malviya Nagar early Wednesday, claiming the lives of 21 individuals, including 17 foreign nationals from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. Efforts are underway as the Ministry of External Affairs liaises with embassies to offer necessary assistance.
According to officials, the blaze broke out at 8:48 am, prompting a swift response from emergency services. The Delhi Fire Service deployed seven tenders, but structural and fire safety lapses hindered operations. Officials noted the presence of only a single staircase and inadequate ventilation, which exacerbated the situation.
Medical Director Dr. Sandeep Budhiraja of the Max Healthcare Group revealed that eight patients remain in critical condition on ventilator support, with asphyxiation from smoke inhalation being the primary concern. Authorities continue to investigate the incident's cause as Delhi Police pursue legal action under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
