Omani Authorities Swiftly Rescue 24 Indian Crew Members from Burning Tanker

The Indian Embassy in Muscat announced the safe rescue of 24 Indian crew members by Omani authorities following a fire incident on the oil tanker MT Marivex. The quick response ensued after the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reported the incident off the coast of Oman.

In a commendable rescue operation, Omani authorities safely evacuated all 24 Indian crew members from the oil tanker MT Marivex after a fire broke out on the vessel, which sails under a Madagascar flag. The Indian Embassy in Muscat expressed its gratitude for the swift action that ensured the safety of Indian nationals.

According to a post on platform X, the embassy highlighted the Omani authorities' prompt response in safeguarding the crew. The evacuation came shortly after the Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed the fire incident occurred south of the Strait of Hormuz.

Director Opesh Kumar Sharma from the Shipping Division confirmed that the fire erupted around 1:30 pm today. The ministry is coordinating with various entities, including the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Navy, to ensure the ongoing safety of the crew members. Efforts are underway to determine whether the ship was struck by a projectile.
