Dramatic Rescue: Omani Authorities Save 24 Indian Crew from Blacklisted Oil Tanker Blaze
Omani authorities rescued 24 Indian crew members from the blacklisted MT Marivex oil tanker after a fire incident. The Palau-flagged vessel faced sanctions from the US and was involved in evading a US blockade. All crew members were safely rescued, and no cargo was on board at the time.
The oil tanker MT Marivex, carrying 24 Indian crew members, was engulfed in a fire earlier this week during an attempt to traverse the Strait of Hormuz. The blacklisted, Palau-flagged vessel is sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and does not fly under the Indian banner, sources reveal.
Reports indicate the ship made multiple attempts to circumvent a US blockade by venturing into Omani waters and turning off its tracking systems to evade detection. However, the uninsured entity was in ballast condition when the unfortunate event transpired.
Despite the dangerous circumstances, all Indian crew members were safely extracted by Omani authorities. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has conveyed its gratitude, lauding the swift response of Oman's emergency services. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the incident, examining whether the vessel had been struck by a projectile, as the fire occurred south of the Strait of Hormuz.
