Russian serviceman killed in explosion in St. Petersburg, newspaper reports

​A ‌car carrying ​a Russian military serviceman ‌and his wife exploded in St. Petersburg ‌on Thursday, killing the ‌man instantly, the Fontanka newspaper ⁠reported. The ​online ⁠newspaper identified the man ⁠as a lieutenant colonel.

The Izvestia ​newspaper said the ⁠driver of the ⁠car ​had been killed in an explosion, ⁠but did not ⁠identify ⁠him as military personnel.
