Agri SA has recently released its annual snapshot of South African agriculture in which it has disclosed some wonderful insights into where the nation’s fruit and vegetable exports are reaching. The report also claims that the country is among the top exporters of quite a number of products.

You can read the new report here. In the year 2017, the export of agriculture products represented about 10.8 percent of the total exports in South Africa. The gross amount of export in 2017 was estimated at R 127.69 billion. The report shows that country is the second largest exporter of citrus fruit (fresh or dried), fourth exporter of pome fruit, sixth exporter of stone fruit, seventh exporter of grapes (fresh or dried), and nine exporter of subtropical fruit.

According to Fresh Plaza, Zimbabwe imports R4.4 billion of South African products whereas Zambia is a big importer at R3.6 billion. Angola, Mauritius, Malawi and Kenya are other major importers of South African products.

The Southern African Agri Initiative (Saai) was recently established to play a big role in bringing out strategic solutions for pressing agricultural problems. According to African Daily Voice, Saai is an agricultural interest network for farmers by farmers, which is committed to protect and promote the rights, values, ideals and needs of family farmers in the primary production sector.

“In addition to being a policy influencer, Saai was established to play an active role in action-driven projects and strategic solutions for pressing agricultural problems,” Francois Rossouw, CEO of Saai opined. “The organisation is not politically affiliated and will work to cooperate with existing agricultural unions with divergent political sentiments where it is in the interest of family farming,” Rossouw added.
