The US probed Boeing 737 Max software and pilot manuals last year; agents began investigating weeks after the Lion Air crash, a major news platform has reported. Boeing faced growing pressure in Washington on Wednesday as U.S. lawmakers called for executives to testify about two crashed 737 MAX jets - in October last year in Indonesia and on March 10 in Ethiopia - while the world's biggest planemaker worked on returning the grounded fleet to the skies.

The crash of a Boeing Co 737 MAX jet in Indonesia on Oct. 29 had raised questions on whether the manufacturer shared enough information with regulators, airlines and pilots about the systems on the latest version of its popular narrow-body plane. The jet operated by budget carrier Lion Air crashed into the Java Sea shortly after take-off from Jakarta, killing all 189 people on board.

The Lion Air crash is the worst airline disaster in Indonesia since 1997 when 234 people died on a Garuda flight near Medan.
