Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum underwent surgery to repair a partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee, the team announced Thursday. He will be sidelined indefinitely and presumably miss the rest of the regular season.

Exum, who last played on March 14, is averaging 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 42 games this season. Exum, 23, was the fifth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft but has had difficulty gaining traction in an injury-filled career. The Australian has a career average of 5.9 points.

Exum suffered a torn ACL in 2015, costing him the 2015-16 season, and was limited to only 14 regular-season games in 2017-18 because of shoulder surgery. A hamstring strain also forced him out of the second round of the postseason that year. Utah brought him back last summer on a three-year, $33 million contract extension.
