Huge numbers of protesters rallied outside Sudan's Defence Ministry on Thursday to demand civilian rule, challenging the ruling Transitional Military Council to cede power. A Reuters reporter estimated the crowd to number hundreds of thousands. The main protest organiser, the Sudanese Professionals' Association, had earlier called for a million-strong march to take place.
