Four Naxals arrested in Chhattisgarh

Four Naxals were arrested today from separate places in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said. Two of them, identified as Hunga Kawasi (30) and Hidma Kartam (35), were arrested from Kuakonda police station limits, while the others, Mangu Muchaki and Madda, were nabbed from Katekalyan and Bhansi areas, respectively, Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police Gorakh Nath Baghel told PTI over the phone.

Separate teams of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the District Force were involved in the arrests in the district, around 350km from state capital Raipur, he said.

Muchaki, head of the Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangthan (DAKMS), a front of Maoists, was allegedly part of a group of Naxals involved in the July 6 encounter with security forces in Dabba village forests, Baghel said.

Three ultras were killed in the encounter. Madda was allegedly part of the Maoist group that had torched a JCB machine engaged in pipeline laying work in Kuakonda area on August 9, the police officer said.

In another incident, Naxals set ablaze a tipper truck, engaged in work for a private company, today in the Kirandul police station area of the district, Baghel said.

No one was hurt in the incident, he said. Meanwhile, security forces have intensified patrolling in the Naxal-hit Bastar region, comprising seven districts - Bastar, Kondagaon, Kanker, Dantewada, Bijapur, Narayanpur and Sukma - to prevent any untoward incident during Independence Day celebrations tomorrow, another police official said.

Naxals have put up posters in some areas of Dantewada, urging people to refrain from celebrating the Independence Day, he said.
