Decentralization of police to aid wider access to information which is often restricted by the centralized approach came as a recommendation by the National Security Advisor (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd.).
The National Economic Council (NEC) of Nigeria is successful in constituting a committee headed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to initiate moves to decentralize the police force in Nigeria.
The NSA further commented on the increasing level of security threats in the country which made it crucial for the states to come in collaboration with the security agencies.
The volume of the security threats is such that it could not be overcome so easily hence a wider approach is required with a strong workforce to ensure the threats are at check.
