The Gujarat government has given the approval for building a ropeway on Chotila Hill, home to the famous temple of Goddess Chamunda, in the state's Surendranagar district, an official said on Friday.

This will be the fourth ropeway project in the state for easy access to shrines on hills in Gujarat.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday informed the state legislative Assembly that the approval for a ropeway over Chotila Hill has been given.

An agency has been appointed to implement the project and the work will start soon, a state government release said.

Earlier, ropeways were built at Ambaji, Pavagadh and Girnar.

These ropeways have increased tourist footfall at these religious centres and the ropeway at Chotila Hill will also bring in a high number of visitors, the statement said.

Lakhs of devotees visit Chotila every year from different parts of Gujarat and neighbouring states.
