UP: Man held for thrashing daughter to death; honour killing suspected

In a suspected case of honor killing, a man has been arrested for allegedly beating his 22-year-old daughter to death in a village in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.

Circle Officer (CO) of Baberu, Siyaram, said Mehmood Khan (49) beat his daughter Hasina Bano to death using sticks in Simauni village around 5.30 pm on Sunday.

The CO said police, after being informed by farmers working in a field, took the woman to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

''Initial probe suggests that Khan wanted to marry his daughter to a person, but she was unwilling,'' police said, adding the woman had gone missing four years ago.

The woman was later found and handed over to her father, they said.

Babe Station House Officer (SHO) NK Nagar said the accused father was arrested on Monday, and he is being interrogated.

The SHO said the probe so far points that it is a case of honor killing. The body has been sent for post-mortem, Nagar said.
