A 75-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his friend in a quarrel over sharing food in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, police said on Friday.

The police have arrested the accused Devrao alias Wasudeo Rameshrao Baraskar (38), a native of Wardha district, for the incident that took place on Wednesday, an official said.

The victim, Arvind Bapurao Barabde, was found dead with a head injury in Wadi area, following which a case of accidental death was registered, he said.

The police received a tip-off that the victim was last seen with the accused, and on interrogation, he confessed to killing the elderly man, the official said.

Devrao and Arvind had consumed liquor at the spot on Wednesday afternoon, and the former had bought food, he said.

The duo quarreled over sharing food, and the accused allegedly attacked the man with a wooden stick on his head and killed him on the spot, the official said, adding that a case of murder has been registered.
