Man arrested for credit card fraud

A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly defrauding a local resident to the tune of nearly Rs 3 lakh, police here said on Saturday.

Balwan Singh, a resident of Adarsh Nagar in Hisar, lodged a complaint at Cyber police station regarding fraud of Rs 2,96,940 at a public sector bank, sub-inspector Gurminder Singh said.

The victim said in his complaint that the accused, who identified himself as Abhishek, called him on February 14, 2022. Posing as an employee of the bank's credit card department, Abhishek told Balwan Singh that he could increase his credit limit without any charge and sought his card number and other details, the victim alleged. Later, Abhishek allegedly made transactions worth Rs 2.96 lakh using the card, the police said.

The accused, identified as Navneet, has been arrested, they added. A native of Khabda in Bihar's Muzaffarpur, Navneet was residing in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar.
