Wanted criminal held in Delhi

A 42-year-old man, wanted in eight criminal cases including armed robbery, was arrested from northeast Delhi's Jafrabad, police said on Monday.

Yusuf, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, is the sharpshooter of the Nasir gang, they said.

Police got a get a tip-off about Yusuf and another person named Akil Khan and found that they robbed Rs 14 lakh at gunpoint in the Civil Lines area on September 6 last year, officials said. The police further learnt that Khan and Yusuf later fled to Mumbai. However, on December 8, Khan was nabbed from the Nizamuddin railway station here, police said. It was found that Yusuf had fled to his native village in Akarbarpur, a senior police officer said. On Wednesday, police got information that Yusuf will visit his friend near Jafarabad. A trap was laid and the accused was apprehended, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan Singh said. Yusuf entered the world of crime in 2009 with his cousin Nasir who is also a notorious gangster of northeast Delhi, police said. In 2017, Yusuf along with Nasir, Hashim alias Baba, Rashid alias Cablewala, Adil, Nadir, Badar and Salman killed Imran and Kamar (both member of Chennu gang) in a broad daylight shootout in Jaffarabd area, police said. Nasir is presently lodged in jail in a MCOCA case. In October, 2021, Yusuf, along with his juvenile son, were again arrested in an attempt to murder case in Jaffarabad. He was released in January last year, police added.
