Two men who had allegedly a gold chain and ring from a woman were arrested on Wednesday following an encounter in this district, police said.

A police constable was also injured in the encounter that took place in the morning near Khushiyari village, they said.

The snatchers also suffered injury in the leg and have been admitted to hospital.

Rahul and his wife Priyanka had gone to Bijethua Mahaveeran Dham for their son's 'mundan' on Tuesday and while returning to home on motorcycle, the two motorcycle-borne suspects snatched her gold chain and ring at gunpoint near Magarson, police station incharge Akram Khan said.

On protesting, they attacked the couple with the butt of the pistol and injured them, Khan said, adding that the police launched a search operation and nabbed the two suspects from near Khushiyari village who also confessed to their role in the crime.

When the police team took the two to the spot in Haripur village for recovery of the looted items, they took out illegal weapons and opened fire on the police team and started running away, injuring constable Gagan Deep Sahni.

In response, the police team also fired in which both the accused were shot in the legs, Khan said.

The injured suspects have been identified as Monu Yadav and Karuna Shankar alias Kamta Pathak. About half a dozen cases including that of loot are registered against Karuna, he added.
