Police seized 290 boxes of liquor worth Rs 36.96 lakh hidden in a section of a Gujarat-bound truck transporting milk of a prominent dairy brand on Thursday near Labravada Fate on the Indore-Ahmedabad road in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and arrested two persons, an official said. Acting on a tip-off that a truck carrying milk of a popular dairy brand headquartered in Gujarat was being used for transporting liquor to the neighbouring 'dry' state from Haryana, a team of cops, including from cyber cell unit personnel, was constituted to intercept the vehicle, city superintendent of police (CSP) Devendra Dhurve told reporters.
The truck was intercepted near a petrol pump adjoining Labravada Fate under Naugaon police station limits by the team and a search led to the seizure of 290 boxes of liquor worth Rs 36.96 lakh, he said.
The boxes were hidden in a specially created section in the truck and covered with trays carrying milk packets to avoid detection, Dhurve said.
Two persons, identified as Hanuman Gayna (31) of Rajasthan and Ajit Sharma (42) of Haryana, were arrested and the truck was impounded, he said.
The duo told the cops they were transporting the liquor from Haryana and the consignment was to be delivered in Gujarat, where total prohibition is in force, said the police officer.
