Women can contribute significantly towards economic growth of their family by joining 'Sakhi Mandals' or Self Help Groups (SHGs), Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan said.
He was listening to the problems of villagers at Bhakso and Rampur during a visit to Lohardaga district on Tuesday. Set up by the Rural Development Department, currently 2.3 lakh 'Sakhi Mandals' have brought together 29 lakh rural women in the state by connecting them through SHGs and enabling them to make a living of their own. President Droupadi Murmu during her visit to the state last month had interacted with about 25,000 women associated with 'Sakhi Mandals' at Khunti. ''When a village develops, you will develop. I want that villagers should get the benefits of various schemes of the central and state governments,'' he said.
Describing education as an important means of empowerment, he said that it should be the priority of all to provide good education to children.
He urged people to take advantages of schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, MNREGA, Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana, Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Awas Yojana, besides the health schemes run by the Centre and state.
The Governor also urged rural women to come forward to take advantages of schemes like Ujjwala.
