UK police lift road closures near Whitehall in London

Authorities lifted temporary road closures near London's Whitehall government district on Wednesday after assessing an item found in the area to be "not suspicious," police said in a statement.

"The item has been assessed as not suspicious and road closures are being lifted," police said.

Police had earlier placed road closures around Whitehall, which is close to Downing Street, the site of the office and residence of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
