President of Himachal unit of VHP Lekhraj Rana on Friday demanded death penalty for the killers of a man whose body was found chopped in eight pieces from a drain in Chamba district.
Protests over the murder of 28-year-old Manohar, whose body was found in Bandal panchayat in Salooni on June 8, would be held on June 19 and 20, Rane was quoted as saying in a statement.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader said that a fast track court should be set up for expediting the investigation in the matter. He also supported Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Jairam Thakur's demand for a probe by the National Investigation Agency into the case.
Rane said that the ''brutal'' incident has brought shame to the peace-loving ''Dev Bhoomi'' and that there was anger among the Hindus over the murder.
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Salooni on Thursday when a mob burned down the house of Musafir Hussain, accused of killing Manohar over an affair with his niece. Police have arrested three persons, including Hussain. The others are Hussain's wife Farida, and Shabir.
