An FIR has been registered against Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation Mayor Munesh Gurjar and some Congress councillors for allegedly deterring a senior officer from performing his duties, police said on Thursday. The development comes days after the mayor and the Congress councillors staged a dharna against the officer for allegedly refusing to clear a file related to sanitation work and mistreating them. A police officer said the case was registered against the mayor, Deputy Mayor Aslam Farukhi and around a dozen more people Wednesday evening on the complaint by Additional Commissioner Rajendra Verma. ''The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 333(voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,'' Ran Singh, SHO, Manak Chowk police station said. Commenting on the charges, the mayor said she will also file a complaint against Verma and will meet Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and the Congress-in-charge for Rajasthan, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. “The additional commissioner has complained against us to hide his own corruption and misdeeds. We had suspended the agitation against him for 10 days after Randhawa assured to look into the matter, but now that an FIR has been registered against us, we will also file a complaint against him,” Gurjar told PTI.
She said she will also present her case in front of the women's commission. Additional Commissioner Verma could not be contacted for comments.
