Man held for cheating woman on promise of marriage

Mangaluru city police have arrested a married man in Dakshina Kannada district on the charges of cheating a young woman after having physical relationship with her by promising to marry her.

The arrested accused has been identified as Anish Rehman from Kadaba. The arrest followed a complaint from a 24-year old woman at the women's police station in the city on June 26, police sources said. The complainant alleged that Anish got acquainted with her on Instagram and later promised to marry her. She was then taken to a lodge in the city where he had physical relationship with her for 20 days. The woman later came to know that Anish was already married, after which a complaint was lodged with the police.

The accused, who was produced before the court here, has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
