Kashmir: Shopian gunfight ends as militants escape

A gunfight between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district ended on Monday after the militants managed to escape.
Police sources said the security forces had surrounded Sangran village in Shopian district in the morning following information that two to three militants were hiding there.
"As the security forces closed in, the militants fired at the security forces, triggering an encounter," a police officer said. "The militants finally escaped."
Protests broke out near the site of the gunfight immediately after the gun battle erupted.
