A fire broke out in a commercial building housing offices of a number of private companies in Indore on Wednesday and some people stranded on the affected floors were rescued, said a police official.

No injuries were reported in the blaze in the building, Industry House, located in the Palasia area of the city, he said.

According to the official, on noticing the blaze, people inside the commercial complex immediately alerted Fire Brigade personnel, who rushed to the site with firefighting equipment and vehicles.

Three ambulances were also at the fire-hit complex, he said.

The fire, whose cause was not immediately known, affected fourth to sixth floors of the building and people stranded on these floors were rescued after sometime, the official said.

The building houses offices of a number of private companies.

Senior officials were supervising the operation to control the blaze.

As soon as information about the fire spread, there was chaos in the building as people tried to rush out, eyewitnesses said.

Meanwhile, traffic on the old Agra-Mumbai Highway, which passes through the area, was diverted to enable firefighters to do their job.
