The National Result Operation Centre (ROC) for the 2024 national elections has been inaugurated at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. This crucial hub will manage the capturing, auditing, collating, and announcing of the election results following Election Day next week.
Electoral Commission (IEC) Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo emphasized the ROC's role as the "beating heart of the democratic process." The centre will gather commission members, operational teams, political party representatives, independent candidates, observer missions, and global media.
Mamabolo highlighted that each of the nine provinces will have its own ROC. He welcomed a record-breaking 160 organizations, deploying over 5,000 observers globally, including esteemed international bodies such as the African Union, The Carter Centre Democracy Program, and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance. These observers will help ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
Mamabolo reminded voters to cast their ballots at their registered voting stations, with exceptions only for those who have pre-notified the commission of their intent to vote outside their registered districts.
With Election Day approaching, Mamabolo urged all South Africans, both domestically and abroad, to participate in this pivotal national event.
IEC Chairperson Mosotho Moepya described the ROC as more than a physical space; it is a testament to the nation's dedication to transparent and fair elections. He welcomed representatives from all political parties and independent candidates, underscoring the collaborative effort required to manage elections.
The ROC will oversee the rigorous audit and authentication of each voting station's results before their posting, ensuring the highest levels of accuracy and accountability. Real-time data accessibility to stakeholders exemplifies the commission's commitment to election integrity.
