The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a ‘Pollution Response Seminar and Mock Drill’ at the Headquarters Coast Guard District No. 8 (West Bengal) on May 22-23, 2024. This significant event brought together key stakeholders from various agencies, including oil handling companies, to tackle the critical issue of combating oil spills at sea.

Participants engaged in a comprehensive table-top exercise, collaborating on simulated scenarios designed to enhance their response capabilities and foster synergy among all parties involved. The seminar provided a platform for the demonstration of state-of-the-art pollution response equipment, allowing participants to gain practical experience and improve their readiness for environmental emergencies.

In his address, the Commander of Headquarters Coast Guard District No. 8 (West Bengal) underscored the importance of synergy and the effective implementation of the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan. He emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard marine resources and reaffirmed the ICG’s commitment to ensuring safer seas and cleaner coasts.
