Dr. Rod Carr, the Chair of the Climate Change Commission, has confirmed he will retire at the end of his term later this year, according to Climate Change Minister Simon Watts.

"Before the election, Dr. Carr informed me of his decision to retire upon the completion of his term. Dr. Rod Carr has been at the helm of the Climate Change Commission since its establishment, and I want to express my gratitude for his leadership," said Watts.

The Climate Change Commission, an independent crown entity, provides advisory services to the Minister of Climate Change.

Commissioners Catherine Leining and Professor James Renwick are also set to depart the Commission this year, as their extended terms will conclude once new appointments are made.

"I appreciate Dr. Carr's foundational work in establishing the Climate Change Commission and extend my thanks to Ms. Leining and Professor Renwick for their contributions," Watts added.

In accordance with the Climate Change Response Act, the Commission’s nominating committee will initiate a public recruitment process to identify and recommend candidates for the three vacant positions to the Minister.

During this recruitment period, Dr. Carr has relinquished his role as Chair of the nominating committee, with Dame Therese Walsh stepping in as his replacement. Dr. Carr will continue to participate as a committee member until his term concludes.
