Supreme Court Judge K V Viswanathan on Friday stressed the urgent need to address climate change, labeling it a serious existential threat. He advocated for the creation of a permanent commission in India, similar to NITI Aayog, to develop a comprehensive solution.
Speaking at the launch of the book 'Climate Change: The Policy, Law and Practice' by Jatinder (Jay) Cheema, Justice Viswanathan emphasized that climate change is an immediate problem that demands attention. He pointed out the necessity of regular stakeholder meetings to push the frontiers of solutions.
Justice Viswanathan also highlighted the ongoing debate about India's framework for climate change legislation. He noted that while developed countries focus on regulating carbon emissions, India needs a model that balances development and emission control.
