Polio Team Under Fire: Tragedy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A police constable was critically injured in an attack on a polio vaccination team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lakki Marwat district. A police constable guarding a polio vaccination team was critically injured when unidentified gunmen ambushed the team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province on Monday, according to police reports.

The attack occurred in the Wargari Bhittani area of Lakki Marwat district, during a door-to-door campaign administering oral anti-polio drops. 'In the ensuing gunbattle, one attacker was killed. There were a total of four attackers, three managed to flee,' said a police spokesperson.

The police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the entire area, initiating a massive search operation to apprehend the culprits. At least 11 police officers have died this year while providing security during vaccination campaigns in the province.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Violence often disrupts anti-polio campaigns in Pakistan. Chief Minister KPK Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the attack and prayed for the injured officer's swift recovery.
