Gruesome Murder of BJP Leader Triggers High-Level Investigation in Assam

A high-level forensic specialist from Gujarat and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) have been deployed to investigate the murder of BJP leader Sunil Gogoi in Assam's Lakhimpur district. The victim's half-burnt, decapitated body was discovered in an open field, prompting an intensive probe involving local police, CID officials, and forensic experts.

A high-level forensic expert from Gujarat has been summoned as part of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to delve into the murder case of Sunil Gogoi, a government contractor and BJP leader in Assam's Lakhimpur district, according to a senior officer.

Local police, CID officials, and forensic experts are involved in the investigation, which is exploring the potential involvement of a Public Health Engineering department engineer recently arrested for bribery following a complaint by the victim. Director General of Police GP Singh emphasized the significance of the case after visiting the crime site.

The half-burnt, decapitated body of Gogoi was found near his residence in Dhakuakhana. Despite the missing head, Gogoi’s family identified the body through a t-shirt. The DGP confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway, with the Lakhimpur superintendent instructed to form an SIT, and a forensic advisor arriving from Gujarat to assist.
